As part of the triple bill for BFK’s 65th anniversary, we wanted to showcase one of the core values of our film club: using film as a window to the world and as a language to analyze economic, political and social structures. 

In the early 1960s, Domenico travels to Milan to go through the application process for a large company. He feels the pressure to secure a stable job, something many young people today can relate to. During the tests, he meets Antonietta, an applicant and future co-worker. After a successful outcome, we follow Domenico as his naive excitement is confronted with the gray world of office work. 

Film expert Paolo Mereghetti referred to Il Posto as an “anti-spectacular” film. Indeed, Il Posto speaks as much through its dialogue as it does through its silences. Without explicit criticism, with a slow pace and empathetic view, Olmi invites us to reflect about how much we are willing to sacrifice for a job.
