The Blazing Sun is an Egyptian romance and drama film starring Omar Sharif and Faten Hamama. This was the first time people could see the magnetic Omar Sharif on screen, and his performance was widely acclaimed. The film follows a wealthy landlord who purposefully floods and destroys a village to prevent the villagers from making a profit off of their crops. What he doesn’t know is that his own daughter, Amal, is in love with Ahmed, a young man living in the village. One can interpret it as a Romeo and Juliet-esque drama containing forbidden love, longing and yearning.
