I Salut les Cubains tar Agnès Varda oss med til Cuba fire år etter at Fidel Castro kom til makten. Gjennom ca. 1500 stillbilder skaper hun et portrett av en nasjon og et folk i form av et video essay hvor vi møter arbeidere, revolusjonære, og kunstnere. En av disse er den 18 år gamle Sara Gómez, som får æren av å avslutte filmen med en dans fanget i bilder. Gjennom Vardas klipp vibrerer stillbildene med ren energi.

In Salut les Cubains Agnès Varda paints a picture of a post-revolutionary Cuba where the people are front and center. She uses more than 1500 still images to form a montage that coalesces into a beautiful portrait of a nation and its people. One of these people is the 18 year old Sara Gómez. Varda allows her to close the film with a dance captured in still images that through the film’s rhythm and tempo reverberates with life.
